Neighborhoods
Syracuse is a city of villages — sixteen of them, by Visit Syracuse's count. Here are the ones you'll want to actually visit during your stay, and what each is known for.
On the eastern shore of Onondaga Lake. 8+ miles of trail, classic Heid's hot dogs, Limp Lizard BBQ, and the Salt Museum. The Syracuse Grand sits a few minutes from the village center.
The lively heart of downtown Syracuse — restored industrial buildings now packed with restaurants, bars, boutiques, and clubs. The Shot Clock Monument and Onondaga Creekwalk are here.
A 25-minute drive west. Skaneateles Lake is famously the cleanest in the country, and the village was named to O Magazine's Charming American Towns list. Boutiques, the Sherwood Inn, Doug's Fish Fry.
Famous for the only "green-on-top" traffic light in America. Coleman's Authentic Irish Pub anchors a tight-knit West Side neighborhood. Best on St. Patrick's Day.
SU, SUNY ESF, and SUNY Upstate Medical share this hill. 19th-century architecture, college bars, the JMA Wireless Dome, and a great walk during fall foliage and SU Family Weekend.
An up-and-coming district built on the former Barge Canal terminal. Walk the harbor, grab a beer at Meiers Creek Inner Harbor, eat lakefront. Walking distance once you arrive.
"#WestcottNation" — coffee shops, bakeries, fresh restaurants, and the annual Westcott Street Cultural Fair. Independent and proud of it.
Twenty-five minutes southeast on Cazenovia Lake. The Brewster Inn and Brae Loch Inn for fine dining, Owera Vineyards and Meiers Creek Brewery for tastings, Critz Farms for u-pick.

A 105-year-old hot dog stand on Oswego Street, minutes from the hotel. Hofmann franks, German potato salad, root beer floats. The Syracuse-area institution.
Liverpool location of the legendary Syracuse sandwich shop. Giant, overstuffed sandwiches, huge subs, award-winning homemade soups. A daily favorite for locals and a quick lunch from the hotel.
Liverpool. Smoked brisket, ribs, and pulled pork in a relaxed bar setting. The mac & cheese is a love letter.
Wolf Street, north Syracuse. A real diner — eggs cooked right, sandwiches the size of your head, bottomless coffee. Open early, easy from the hotel.
The original Syracuse location on Willow Street that launched the chain. Smoked ribs, brisket, fried green tomatoes, live music. A must-do downtown stop.
Armory Square. Handmade pasta, the legendary spicy hot tomato oil, the famous stretch bread. Always busy — go early or be patient.
East Genesee Street, across from Syracuse Stage and steps from SU. Serving Syracuse since 1976 — quality food, full bar, coffee lounge, a perfect pre- or post-theater dinner.
Westcott Street. Neighborhood bar and restaurant with a Spanish/Mediterranean menu — a long-running Syracuse favorite with a loyal local following.
Famous for the Frittata Challenge — a 5-pound omelet. Even if you're not attempting it, the breakfast is exceptional.
Locally roasted, friendly baristas, room for laptops. A favorite stop on the way to a meeting.
Breweries
From Syracuse's oldest working brewery to farmhouse taprooms a short drive out, here's where to find a great pint.
Day Trips
All within an hour or so. Pick one for a half-day or string a few together.
The "Jewel of the Finger Lakes." Stroll the village, lunch at Doug's Fish Fry, wine and views at Anyela's Vineyards. A perfect weekend turn.
Two glacial lakes with otherworldly turquoise color, plus hiking trails, a swimming beach, and a championship golf course.
Lakeside village dining at the Brewster Inn, wine at Owera Vineyards, beer at Meiers Creek, u-pick fruit and a kids' area at Critz Farms.
U-pick apples, wagon rides, hot apple fritters, donuts, and the 1911 Tasting Room for hard cider and spirits. Best in fall.
A peaceful hike to a tiered waterfall and a unique boardwalk through wetlands. Spring through fall, easy difficulty.
137-foot glacier-formed waterfall plus the site of Onondaga County's first mill (1796). Trails, picnic spots, and an archery range.
Family-friendly trails, guided nature programs, and a great kids' option for a half-day outdoors.
Cayuga and Seneca Lake wine trails are an easy drive. Make it a long lunch or a full day; the Riesling country is world-class.

Tipperary Hill goes all-in for St. Paddy's. Syracuse Mets opening day at NBT Bank Stadium. Onondaga Lake Park reopens to full activity. Cherry blossoms at Onondaga Park.
Onondaga Lake Park trails, Skaneateles boating, Mets baseball, and the Empower FCU Amphitheater concert run. Westcott Street Cultural Fair late summer.
13 days starting late August at the State Fairgrounds, ending Labor Day. The largest agricultural fair in the Northeast. Plan parking in advance.
Syracuse fall is exceptional. Beak & Skiff for apple picking, Lafayette Apple Festival in October, drives through the Route 20 Scenic Byway. SU football season is here too.
Labrador Mountain and Song Mountain for skiing, Highland Forest for cross-country. SU basketball is in season at the Dome. Winterfest in Liverpool every February.
JMA Wireless Dome (the "Loud House") draws Springsteen and Billy Joel as readily as it draws SU games. Always check the calendar — there's usually something on.
